This special issue of TLDKS contains two kinds of papers. First, it contains a sel- th tion of the best papers from the 11 International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009), which was held from August 31 to S- tember 2, 2009 in Linz, Austria. Second, it contains a special section of papers on a particularly challenging domain in information retrieval, namely patent retrieval. Over the last decade, the International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) has established itself as one of the most important international scientific events within data warehousing and knowledge discovery. DaWaK brings together a wide range of researchers and practitioners working on these topics. The DaWaK conference series thus serves as a leading forum for discu- th ing novel research results and experiences within the field. The 11 International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009) cont- ued the tradition by disseminating and discussing innovative models, methods, al- rithms, and solutions to the challenges faced by data warehousing and knowledge discovery technologies.

R1,518 Discovery Miles 15 180 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Since 2008, Globe has been an annual international conference on data management in grid and peer-to-peer systems. Initially, grid and peer-to-peer systems experienced significant success in scientific and file sharing applications. Today, these systems cover the management of large, distributed and heterogeneous data. These systems are characterized by high heterogeneity, high autonomy and dynamics of nodes, dec- tralization of control and large-scale distribution of resources. Research on data m- agement in grid and peer-to-peer, relatively recent, aims to scale distributed systems and applications that require effective management of voluminous, large-scale distr- uted and heterogeneous data. The third edition of the international conference Globe was held in Bilbao, Spain during September 1-2, 2010. Globe provided opportunities for academia or industry researchers to present and discuss the latest research and applications on data m- agement in grid and peer-to-peer systems. Globe 2010 received 26 papers from 15 countries. The reviewing process led to the acceptance of 13 papers for presentation at the conference and inclusion in this LNCS volume. Each paper was reviewed by at least two Program Committee members. The conference would not have been possible without the support of the Program Committee members, external reviewers, Organizing Committee, members of the DEXA conference and the authors. In particular, we would like to thank Gabriela Wagner and Roland Wagner (FAW, University of Linz) for their help in the reali- tion of this conference.

st We welcome you to the proceedings of the 21 International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications held in Bilbao. With information and database s- tems being a central topic of computer science, it was to be expected that the integ- tion of knowledge, information and data is today contributing to the again rapidly increasing attractiveness of this field for researchers and practitioners. Since its foundation in 1990, DEXA has been an annual international conference, located in Europe, which showcases state-of-the-art research activities in these areas. DEXA 2010 continued this tradition and provided a forum for presenting and discu- ing research results in the area of database and intelligent systems and advanced - search topics, applications and practically relevant issues related to these areas. It offered attendees the opportunity to extensively discuss requirements, problems, and solutions in the field in the pleasant atmosphere of the city of Bilbao, which is known for its driving industriousness, its top cultural venues and its rich and inspiring he- tage and lifestyle. The University of Deusto with its great educational and research traditions, and the hospitality which the university and the city are so famous for, set the stage for this year's DEXA conference. This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the DEXA conference.

R1,557 Discovery Miles 15 570 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing (e.g., computing resources, services, metadata, data sources) across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-management systems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. This, the 43rd issue of Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems, contains five revised selected regular papers. Topics covered include classification tasks, machine learning algorithms, top-k queries, business process redesign and a knowledge capitalization framework.

The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-management systems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. Current decentralized systems still focus on data and knowledge as their main resource. Feasibility of these systems relies basically on P2P (peer-to-peer) techniques and the support of agent systems with scaling and decentralized control. Synergy between grids, P2P systems, and agent technologies is the key to data- and knowledge-centered systems in large-scale environments. This special issue contains extended and revised versions of 4 papers, selected from the 25 papers presented at the satellite events associated with the 17th East-European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS 2013), held on September 1-4, 2013 in Genoa, Italy. The three satellite events were GID 2013, the Second International Workshop on GPUs in Databases; SoBI 2013, the First International Workshop on Social Business Intelligence: Integrating Social Content in Decision Making; and OAIS 2013, the Second International Workshop on Ontologies Meet Advanced Information Systems. The papers cover various topics in large-scale data and knowledge-centered systems, including GPU-accelerated database systems and GPU-based compression for large time series databases, design of parallel data warehouses, and schema matching. The special issue content, which combines both theoretical and application-based contributions, gives a useful overview of some of the current trends in large-scale data and knowledge management and will stimulate new ideas for further research and development within both the scientific and industrial communities.

This, the 14th issue of Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems, contains four revised selected regular papers. Topics covered include data stream systems, top-k query processing, semantic web service (SWS) discovery, and XML functional dependencies.
